ABOUT GGP
Girls Gone Political (GGP) is a grassroots civic engagement initiative empowering young people, especially young women under 35 to meaningfully participate in Zambia’s democratic and governance processes.

Founded in 2020 by Ruth Kay Kangwa, the social movement exists to close the gap between youth and power by building political literacy, raising civic awareness, and inspiring bold participation in decision-making spaces. From school-based civic education and community debates to voter education campaigns and grassroots mobilisation, GGP equips the next generation with the tools, confidence, a platform, and a voice to lead.

GGP is now a flagship initiative of the Femme Democracy Foundation, a human rights and governance organization based in Zambia. While rooted in feminist values, GGP welcomes all young people committed to reshaping Zambia’s democratic future through civic action, accountability, and collective leadership.

OUR STORY AS ARCHITECTS OF CHANGE
Since our inception, we have passionately built a movement that empowers and inspires through grassroots mobilization and strategic engagement with the people, partners, policymakers, we drive conversations that promote a more inclusive society.
Our movement addresses critical issues such as limited access to civic education, economic empowerment, gender inequality, and the underrepresentation of young women in leadership roles in Zambia.

We recognize the impact these challenges have on young women's political participation and civic rights, especially in impoverished and patriarchal communities. We believe in the power of collaboration and dialogue to foster understanding and create lasting change
